About
Rigour earns the reverie: plan deliberately, live freely (without the guilt).
What it is
Rigour & Reverie exists for everyone with a “someday” list, to help turn it into real memories. It’s being built, destination by destination and occasion by occasion, for the whole arc of a trip or a milestone: the anticipation, the planning, the going, and the remembering. It starts with printable hosting kits and personalized keepsakes to announce, celebrate, and remember the moments that matter. Over time, it will grow into planners for every phase, and art and giftables, so the trip doesn’t end when you unpack. Each collection is designed to belong together, so the shelf, the suitcase, and the wall can all tell the same story.
Who it’s for
If you’re the PLANNER in your house (keeper of the spreadsheet), welcome: you’re among your own, and everything here is made to meet your standards. If you’re the DREAMER with a head full of saved places, you’re equally welcome: the thinking is done for you here, so all that’s left is the fun part. Whichever type you are, you will also find thoughtful gift options for those closest to you, and sometimes that simply means treating yourself!
Who’s behind it
So who’s behind it? Hi, I’m Gayle. I come from more than twenty years in aerospace program management in the American Midwest, where nothing flies until every last detail agrees. I am (unapologetically) the planner in both my career and my household; the color-coded spreadsheet is mine! It’s how we’ve twice moved our whole lives across an ocean (different oceans, at that).
England isn’t our first leap. Almost exactly ten years before making this move, my husband Nathan and I packed up for Australia, and three wonderful years there taught us what a life abroad really takes, and what it gives back. So when the next door opened for us, we didn’t need ages to deliberate; we said yes, faster this time. He made it to Leamington Spa (an easy 1.5hr train ride NW of London for those who aren’t familiar) within a couple of months; I followed a few months later with Phoebe, our dog, in tow, who’s traded her walks in Tower Grove Park in St. Louis for strolls along the River Leam, or occasionally even the River Avon.
Why it began
Two ocean crossings, one lesson: spontaneity favors the prepared. I know all too well how the other way goes. The calendar fills itself, the busy years fly on by, and the fun list (whether it lives in a color-coded spreadsheet or all in your head) just keeps growing, while life runs on default.
Spontaneity favors the prepared.
Our recent move helped knock me out of my own default mode, and that’s where Rigour & Reverie began. After all, life is short; RIGOUR EARNS THE REVERIE. What it means: Plan deliberately, live freely (without the guilt). And yes, that’s rigour with a “u”. It’s how my new home spells it, and a simple reminder to stay open to a world beyond our own. Friends shorten the name to R&R for good reason… rest and relaxation is the point!
Why now, of all times? That’s a story of its own: The bookstore three blocks away.
Where it’s going
Before any of this, I spent several years running my own event-planning business on the side. So while travel will always be a big part of it, it’s really about the moments a well-planned year holds, whatever that looks like: the milestone trip, yes, but also the anniversary, the celebration, and the monthly gathering of your favorite people. As Rigour & Reverie grows, that’s the direction it’s headed: simply put, less life on default, more of the list actually lived.
What you can expect from me: things that work as well as they look: designs that print cleanly, and gifts that arrive ready to give. If something isn’t right, tell me, and I’ll make it right. And if you have an idea that could make something better, let’s talk!
I’d love to help you turn more of those meaning-to’s into memories. Someday isn’t a plan, but it’s a wonderful place to start.
